More work on Science and Tech needed in Muslim World: Senegal Minister

ISLAMABAD June 01 (APP): Pr Mary Teuw NIANE, Minister for Higher Education, Senegal urged the need for more efforts and work to be done in Research and Development areas of Science and Technology.
In his exclusive talk with APP during the 15th General Assembly of COMSTECH here Wednesday, Pr Mary Teuw said that OIC member states have to be equipped with technological knowledge to compete at global level.
He stressed for more exchanges knowledge and expertise among the OIC member states.

“Science and Technology is essential for other sphere of present knowledge sphere” he said adding that reinstating the early period of Islamic contribution in science and technology is need of the time.
Referring to the famous saying of Prophet Muhammad (SAAW) of seeking knowledge, Pr Mary Teuw expounded that Islam doesn’t limit the knowledge to religious only. “Iqra means to learn and read other knowledge like science and technology”, he said, noting that the Muslim World is left far away from modern scientific approach because of not maintain knowledge balance in social, scientific and religion domains.
Appreciating Pakistan’s supportive role in science and technology, the Senegal Minister said it has standardized research orientation as well as talent that is of magnificent importance for rest of the Muslim states. He further recalled the globally recognized contribution by Dr Abdul Salam in the field physics, as a model for other states. Pr Mary Teuw also highlighted Pakistan’s unvarying technical expertise in nuclear and space sciences.
